First-time house cleaning price

Updated October 31, 2026 · QuoteCubby

The first visit to a new client almost always takes longer than the ones that follow. Price that extra time up front, show the recurring price next to it, and the client understands why.

Why the first visit is different

HomeGuide puts it simply: with a weekly service, “your first-time cleaning will take longer and cost more.” Buildup, unfamiliar layouts and a client who wants everything done the first time all add minutes.

Example: first visit, then recurring

1,800 sq ft, 3 bed / 2 bath, no pets, crew of two:

VisitLaborPrice
First clean4 h 25 min$235
Every 2 weeks after that2 h 55 min$145
Weekly after that2 h 55 min$135
One-time standard (for comparison)2 h 55 min$160
Deep clean (if the home is far behind)5 h 15 min$275

Example only, using the calculator’s starter numbers: $50 per person-hour target, $6 supplies, 12 round-trip miles at $0.35, $120 minimum job, prices rounded up to $5, average condition, no pets. Deep = 1.8× standard time, move-out = 2.2×, first clean = 1.5×. These are not market rates. Recurring discounts in the example: 10% every 2 weeks, 15% weekly.

The BidCalc recurring-pricing guide makes the same point: the recurring rate applies from visit two, and the first visit is priced as a first-time clean at 1.5–2×.

How to quote it

  • Two prices on one quote: “First clean $___, then $___ every two weeks.” Clients see the long-term price and understand the first one.
  • Set a condition rule: if the home is much dirtier than the photos, the first visit becomes a deep clean at $___.
  • Time it. Write down how long the first visit took. It tells you if the recurring price works.

FAQ

Why does the first cleaning cost more?

The first visit takes longer: you are removing buildup and learning the home. HomeGuide notes that with a weekly service, the first-time cleaning will take longer and cost more.

How much more should a first clean cost?

Price the extra time. The calculator uses 1.5× standard time as an example. Some cleaning-software guides suggest 1.5–2×. Time a few first visits to set yours.

Is a first clean the same as a deep clean?

Not always. A first clean brings the home to a level you can maintain. If the home is far behind, quote a full deep clean instead.

Should I give the recurring discount on the first visit?

Usually not. The discount works because maintained homes are faster, which starts from the second visit.

Quoting the same kinds of homes every week? The QuoteCubby kit (from $19, Google Sheets or Excel) keeps your price list, job log and client rates in one place. The free calculator stays free either way.
