Fluffmobile’s figures are medians of the starting prices that mobile groomers post on their websites (only 318 of 852 post a price). Rover’s are averages on its own platform. HomeGuide’s are from 2023. Local prices vary a lot: Fluffmobile found a median full groom of $78 in Miami and $160 in Seattle.

How to set your own price

  1. Time your grooms for a small, short-coated dog: setup, bath and dry, then the haircut.
  2. Adjust for the dog: size, coat (double or curly coats take longer), matting and behavior.
  3. Add supplies and flat-price add-ons like teeth brushing or flea shampoo.
  4. If you’re mobile, add the drive: vehicle cost and the minutes you spend driving.
  5. Check your real hourly pay and set a minimum per dog.

Worked example

With the calculator’s example numbers, a mobile full groom for a small short-coated dog comes to $100 and pays about $54.30 per hour after supplies, gas and 20 minutes of driving.

Mobile, example numbersPriceReal $/hour
Small dog, full groom$100$54.30

Medium dog with some mats$140$56.13
Medium nervous dog$145$56.69

Example only, using the calculator’s starter numbers: $65 per hour target, 35 minutes of bath and dry plus 35 minutes of haircut for a small short-coated dog (medium +35%, large +75%, extra-large +120% time; double coat +20%, curly coat +35%), 10 minutes of setup, $6 of supplies, mobile: 10 miles and 20 minutes of driving at $0.35 per mile, $60 minimum, rounded up to $5. These are not market rates.

Business licensing and rules for grooming vans or home salons vary by state and city; check your local rules. Nothing here is veterinary advice: if a dog has skin problems or matting close to the skin, talk with the owner before you start.

FAQ

How much do dog groomers charge?

Published figures vary by source and method. Fluffmobile’s November 2026 report of 852 mobile groomers found a median starting price of about $120 for a full groom and $90 for a bath. Rover reports full grooms averaging $86 for small dogs and $211 for extra-large dogs on its platform. HomeGuide (2023 data) lists $40–$75 at a shop and about $75 for mobile.

Should I charge by size or by the hour?

Most groomers post prices by size or weight and add charges for coat type, matting and behavior, because those change the time. The calculator does both: it estimates your time from size and coat, then prices that time at your target rate.

Should I charge more for doodles?

Fluffmobile found a doodle groom costs about $25 (17%) more than the same groomer’s standard price. Curly coats usually take longer to brush out, dry and cut.
