How long does it take to clean a 3-bedroom house?

Updated October 31, 2026 · QuoteCubby

Time is the foundation of every cleaning price. Here are example times for a 3-bedroom home by job type and crew size, what makes a job run long, and how to turn your real minutes into a quote.

The short answer

For a typical 1,800 sq ft, 3 bed / 2 bath home in average condition, using the calculator’s starter timing:

Job typeLabor (person-hours)SoloTeam of 2
Standard2 h 55 min2 h 55 min1 h 30 min
First clean (new client)4 h 25 min4 h 25 min2 h 10 min
Deep5 h 15 min5 h 15 min2 h 40 min
Move-out6 h 25 min6 h 25 min3 h 15 min

Example timing, not a benchmark: 45 base minutes + 15 per bedroom + 25 per bathroom + 20 per 1,000 sq ft, rounded to 5 minutes; first clean ×1.5, deep ×1.8, move-out ×2.2. Team time assumes the work splits evenly.

For a reference point from the market side, HomeGuide notes most home cleaning visits last at least two hours with two workers, and HomeGuide says a standard two-bedroom Airbnb turnover takes about 1.5 to 3 hours.

What changes the time

  • Bathrooms matter more than square feet. Each one adds about 25 minutes in the starter timing.
  • Pets add hair on every surface (the calculator adds 15 minutes as an example).
  • Condition: clutter or buildup can add 30% or more.
  • First visits are slower because you are learning the home and removing buildup. See first-time cleaning prices.
  • Add-ons like inside the oven (about 30 minutes) or fridge (about 30 minutes). See the add-on price list.

Turn your time into a price

Once you know the labor time, the price is simple: person-hours × your hourly rate + supplies + travel, rounded up, never below your minimum. For the standard clean above, that’s $160 with the starter numbers. The deep clean is $275.

Time five real jobs. Write down start and finish times and who worked. After five to ten jobs, adjust the minutes per bedroom, bathroom and 1,000 sq ft in the calculator so it matches how you actually clean.

FAQ

How long does it take to clean a 3-bedroom house?

With the calculator’s example timing, a standard clean of a 1,800 sq ft, 3 bed / 2 bath home is about 2 h 55 min of labor: roughly 3 hours solo or 1.5 hours for two cleaners. A deep clean is about 5 h 15 min of labor and a move-out about 6 h 25 min. Your times will differ; time a few jobs.

Does a second cleaner cut the time in half?

Roughly, but not exactly. You lose some time to coordination and sharing one kitchen. Price by person-hours so each cleaner is paid for the work.

What makes a cleaning take longer?

More bathrooms, pets, clutter, hard-water buildup, the first visit to a new client, and add-ons like inside the oven or fridge.

How do I get faster without cutting corners?

Clean in the same order every time, carry a caddy room to room, work top to bottom, and keep a log of real minutes so you see where time goes.
