How to quote window cleaning from photos
Updated November 1, 2026 · QuoteCubby
What photos and details to ask for, a simple way to count windows the same way every time, and quote wording that covers you if the home is different.
Why quote from photos
Driving out to look at every home costs time you don’t get paid for. A clear set of photos and a few questions let you send a quote the same day, and a written list of what’s included protects you if the home turns out to be different.
What to ask the client
- Photos of every side of the house, plus any big picture windows, sliding doors and skylights.
- Stories: one, two or three, and anything over a roof or a slope.
- Inside, outside or both, and whether screens and tracks are included.
- A close-up of the dirtiest window (hard water, paint or construction residue changes the time a lot).
- Access: gates, pets, furniture in front of windows, parking.
Count windows the same way every time
| What you see | How to count it |
|---|---|
| Single- or double-hung, slider, casement | 1 standard window |
| Picture window, bay section, sliding glass door, French door | 1 large window or glass door each |
| Skylight | 1 skylight |
| Small fixed glass next to a door | Your choice, but always the same: many count it as a standard window |
| Screens | Count separately as an add-on |
Use the same rules in your quote, on your price sheet and in the calculator so your numbers stay comparable from job to job.
Example: a quote from photos
Photos show a two-story home with 18 standard windows and 3 large ones, inside and out. With the calculator’s example numbers, that’s $320. If you arrive and find 3 more standard windows that weren’t in the photos, the price becomes $355, which is why the quote should list the count.
Example only, using the calculator’s starter numbers: $60 per hour target, 10 minutes per standard window and 18 per large window (inside and out), 15 setup minutes, $5 supplies, 10 round-trip miles at $0.35 per mile, 20 minutes of driving, $150 minimum, rounded up to $5. These are not market rates. Two stories add 25% to glass time.
What to write on the quote
- The windows counted, by type, and the sides cleaned.
- Add-ons included or not (screens, tracks).
- “Price is based on the photos you sent. If the number of windows or their condition is different, I’ll confirm the new price before starting.”
- How long the quote is valid.

Can I give a firm price from photos?
You can give a firm price for what you can see and count, as long as the quote lists the windows and conditions it covers. Say what changes the price, like extra windows, hard water or screens that weren’t in the photos.
What photos should I ask for?
Each side of the house from the street or yard, any large or hard-to-reach glass, a close-up of the dirtiest window, and the screens. Ask how many stories and whether they want inside, outside or both.
What if the count is wrong when I arrive?
Count before you start and tell the client the new price before doing the extra work. Writing your per-window price on the quote makes that conversation easy.
