How much to charge for pool cleaning

Updated November 1, 2026 · QuoteCubby

Published national monthly and per-visit prices, and a step-by-step way to set a pool service price that still pays you after chemicals and the drive between stops.

Published pool service prices (US national figures)

SourceWhat it measuresPrice
HomeGuideWeekly or bi-weekly cleaning service, per month$80–$150
HomeGuideBasic care (chemicals + equipment check), per month$30–$95
HomeGuideWeekly route visit$20–$50
Angi (Aug 2026)Routine maintenance visit (average $236)$116–$357
Angi (Aug 2026)Routine cleaning, per visit$80–$150
Angi (Aug 2026)Chemical balancing, per visit$15–$35
Angi (Aug 2026)Labor, per hour$75–$150

Angi’s average comes from projects reported by pros on its platform. HomeGuide’s $20–$50 is the price of one visit on a recurring weekly route, which is why it is much lower than Angi’s single-visit figure. Local prices vary a lot.

How to set your own price

  1. Time one visit for a typical pool: setup and water test, then skim, brush, vacuum and baskets for full service.
  2. Adjust for the pool: size, trees and leaves, an attached spa.
  3. Add chemicals at your cost plus a markup, and your vehicle cost per stop.
  4. Multiply by visits per month (about 4.3 for weekly) and round to a clean monthly price.
  5. Check your real hourly pay including the drive between stops, and set a monthly minimum (see route pricing).

Worked example

With the calculator’s example numbers, weekly full service on a medium pool comes to $170 per month (about $39.23 per visit). After chemicals, gas and 15 minutes of driving per stop, it pays about $39.31 per hour.

Weekly service, example numbersPer monthReal $/hour
Small pool, full service$150$37.91
Medium pool, full service$170$39.31
Large pool, full service$220$42.66
Medium pool, chemical-only$110$31.27
Medium pool, lots of trees$200$41.60
Medium pool + spa$225$42.73

Example only, using the calculator’s starter numbers: $55 per hour target, 25 minutes of cleaning for a medium pool on weekly full service (15% less for a small pool, 35% more for a large one), 5 minutes of setup, $8 of chemicals per visit with a 15% markup, 5 miles and 15 minutes of driving per stop at $0.35 per mile, $100 monthly minimum, $150 one-time minimum, rounded up to $5. These are not market rates.

Licensing, insurance and chemical-handling rules for pool service businesses vary by state and county. Check your local rules and always follow the chemical label; this isn’t legal or safety advice.
